The nose is an organ with many functional importance, including breathing, smell, humidifying and removing dust from the inhaled air, and creating resonance during speech. Breathing through the nose is one of the most vital activities we perform daily without even realizing it.
Curvatures in the cartilage and bone septum inside the nose, caused by developmental changes or trauma later in life, can lead to breathing problems and negatively affect our quality of life and health. These problems can cause nasal congestion, sleeping with the mouth open, snoring, dry mouth, frequent pharyngitis infections, postnasal drip, daytime fatigue and weakness, attention deficit, recurrent nosebleeds, headaches, and frequent sinusitis infections.
A physical examination is usually sufficient for diagnosing the disease. If deemed necessary, a CT scan of the sinuses may be requested to evaluate any accompanying sinusitis or nasal polyps.
Septoplasty is a surgical procedure used to correct nasal cartilage deformities. The surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia and takes approximately 45 minutes. During the same procedure, nasal polyps and other pathologies causing nasal congestion are also removed. There is no change in the external shape of the nose after the surgery. Furthermore, there are no painful swelling around the eyes, bruising under the eyes, or other similar complaints.
Patients who undergo nasal cartilage correction surgery can be discharged on the same day.
Nasal polyps, three on each side of the nose (upper, middle, and lower), are structures responsible for humidifying, warming, and removing dust from the air. In some cases (due to allergies, infections, or congenital conditions), they can become larger than they should be, hindering comfortable breathing.

Abnormal growth of nasal turbinates can lead to nasal congestion. When nasal sprays and medical treatments are ineffective, it is possible to reduce the size of the nasal turbinates by applying RF (radiofrequency) therapy.
